Promising young cricketer Shamar Apple has once again found himself among the beneficiaries of the impactful “Project Cricket Gear for Young and Promising Cricketers in Guyana.†Apple, a standout wicketkeeper and powerful left-handed opening batsman at the Under-15 level, recently received a new pair of cricket shoes through the initiative.
Project Cricket Gear, spearheaded by Anil Beharry of Guyana and Kishan Das of the USA, continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young athletes across the country. The project’s mission is to provide cricket equipment—ranging from bats and pads to shoes and gloves—free of cost to talented and disciplined youth who might otherwise lack access to proper gear.
Apple, a student at St. Winifred Secondary School and a member of the Transport Sports Club, has been recognized for his exceptional performances and dedication to the sport. His latest support from the project is part of a broader effort that has seen more than 90 young cricketers from all three counties of Guyana receive essential equipment and financial assistance.
The project’s organizers emphasize the importance of keeping youths engaged in positive activities and away from negative influences. By equipping them with the necessary tools, Project Cricket Gear aims to nurture the next generation of cricket stars and foster a culture of discipline, education, and community involvement.
As the initiative continues to grow, it has received support from both local and overseas donors, ensuring that even more young talents like Shamar Apple can pursue their cricketing dreams with confidence and pride.
