Four men were taken into police custody late Tuesday night following the discovery of more than 60 grams of suspected cocaine and cannabis at the Supenaam waterfront, near the bustling Farmer’s Wharf.
According to police sources, ranks from Regional Division #2 were conducting a routine mobile patrol around 11:17 p.m. when they noticed four men loitering near ‘Dunchie’s Shop’, a popular spot adjacent to the wharf. Their suspicions aroused, officers conducted a search of the immediate area. Just a short distance away, they uncovered a transparent plastic bag containing a white, rock-like substance believed to be cocaine, as well as another bag filled with leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The suspected narcotics were found in close proximity to where the men were standing. Upon being shown the substances, all four individuals denied any knowledge or ownership of the drugs. Nevertheless, police arrested the men at the scene and transported them to the Aurora Police Station for further questioning.
Subsequent weighing of the substances at the station confirmed the suspected cocaine amounted to 51.98 grams, while the cannabis weighed in at 12.25 grams. The case has now triggered a formal investigation, with authorities working to determine the men’s connection to the illicit drugs.
This incident marks another chapter in the ongoing battle against narcotics trafficking in the Essequibo region, where law enforcement agencies have intensified patrols and surveillance at key transit points such as wharves and waterfronts. Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining a strong presence in the area and urged residents to report any suspicious activity.
Investigations are ongoing, and charges are expected to be laid as authorities continue their crackdown on illegal drugs in the region.
