The 2025 West Indies Fullbore Shooting Council (WIFBSC) Championships have officially kicked off in Barbados, with Guyana’s top marksmen taking a measured approach as the highly anticipated individual competition gets underway.

Representing a proud tradition of marksmanship, the Guyanese shooters arrived in Bridgetown with high hopes and a clear strategy: steady pacing and tactical focus. Team captain Mahendra Persaud emphasized the importance of conserving energy and maintaining composure during the grueling multi-day event, where consistency is key to reaching the podium.

“We’re taking it one stage at a time,†Persaud said ahead of the first rounds. “The conditions here can change quickly, so our shooters are focused on reading the wind, adapting to the range, and executing their shots with discipline.â€

The individual competition, a highlight of the WIFBSC Championships, draws elite shooters from across the Caribbean and beyond. Each participant faces a series of challenging distances, testing their skill, concentration, and endurance. For the Guyanese contingent, the opening days are about building momentum, learning the nuances of the Barbadian range, and positioning themselves for a strong finish.

Veteran shooters like Lennox Braithwaite and Ronsford Goodluck are expected to lead by example, guiding younger teammates through the pressures of international competition. The team’s preparation included rigorous training sessions and mental conditioning, ensuring every member is ready for the demands of the championship.

As the competition fires off, all eyes are on the Guyanese shooters to see if they can replicate or surpass their past successes. With the team’s disciplined approach and unwavering determination, Guyana remains a formidable contender in the race for individual honors at the WIFBSC Championships Barbados 2025.
