Three men from Bartica, Region Seven, appeared before the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, after being charged with break and enter and larceny in connection with a recent burglary.
The accused have been identified as Paul McKenzie, 34, of Lot 4 New Housing Scheme, Bartica; Mario Singh, 37, of Lot 119 West Indian Housing Scheme, Bartica; and Carlton Simmons, 44, a miner from Agatash Village, Bartica. The charges stem from an alleged break-in and theft at the premises of Jianmei Qiu.
During the court proceedings, Mario Singh pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment. His co-accused, Paul McKenzie and Carlton Simmons, both pleaded not guilty and were remanded to prison until their next court appearance, scheduled for July 2, 2025.
The case has heightened concerns about property crimes in the Bartica area, as residents and business owners call for increased vigilance and swift justice in such matters.
