Guyana Prepares for Major Afreximbank Roadshow on Local Content and Economic Growth

    Published on

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is set to host the highly anticipated Afreximbank Guyana Roadshow 2025 from May 21–22 at the Marriott Hotel in Georgetown, marking a significant milestone in strengthening economic ties and local content participation in Guyana’s rapidly evolving economy.

Organized in partnership with the Government of Guyana, the two-day event will run each morning and is expected to bring together approximately 150 representatives from government agencies, manufacturers, financial institutions, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and the oil and gas sector. Themed “Empowering Local Content Participation for Sustainable Prosperity Through the Implementation of Afreximbank Mandate,†the roadshow aims to provide a platform for networking, knowledge-sharing, and direct engagement with Afreximbank’s suite of financial and non-financial products.

A central focus of the roadshow will be Afreximbank’s landmark US$1 billion oil service financing facility, designed to empower Guyanese businesses and promote local participation throughout the oil and gas value chain. Local companies interested in accessing finance from this facility will have the opportunity to learn how their investment plans can be realized, with the bank and government appealing especially to oil and gas service businesses and those seeking to enter the market.

This event follows a series of major initiatives since Guyana became an Afreximbank partner in September 2022, including the successful AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum 2023, a US$100 million trade finance facility for crude oil exports, and the bank’s growing commitment to support local industry and economic diversification.

Headquartered in Cairo, with a regional office in Bridgetown, Barbados leading Caribbean engagement, Afreximbank’s core mission is to stimulate intra- and extra-African trade and drive transformational change across the region. The Guyana Roadshow will also spotlight the bank’s broader mandate, offering a platform to demystify its role as a pan-African institution and to showcase strategic projects that can serve as catalysts for regional trade and sustainable development.

Afreximbank’s engagement in Guyana is part of its “Global Africa†strategy, which seeks to foster deeper collaboration between African and Caribbean economies, unlocking new opportunities for growth and prosperity. The event is open to invited stakeholders and is expected to foster stronger business linkages, support local content, and elevate Guyana’s economic prospects on the international stage.
