Guyana’s bold efforts to diversify its economy beyond oil and gas were met with widespread praise on the opening day of the 2025 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), as government officials and private sector leaders highlighted the nation’s transformation into a dynamic investment destination.

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) led a 35-member delegation to the flagship energy event, underscoring the country’s commitment to showcasing its expanding economic landscape. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, GCCI President Kathy Smith lauded the “intentional and deliberate” strategies implemented by the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) government to broaden Guyana’s economic base. Smith emphasized that these efforts have created a diverse range of investment opportunities, positioning Guyana as “more than oil” on the global stage.

Chief Investment Officer and CEO of the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest), Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, reinforced this message, detailing the government’s approach to attracting investment across multiple sectors. “Guyana is more than oil,” Ramsaroop stated, pointing to the country’s growing tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, and logistics industries. He highlighted the upcoming Gas-to-Energy project, which is set to significantly reduce electricity costs and spur industrial growth, as a catalyst for further diversification.

The OTC 2025 platform provided Guyana’s delegation with opportunities to engage with international partners, explore joint ventures, and promote the country’s readiness for investment in sectors beyond oil and gas. The delegation also announced incentives for new businesses, including a year of free GCCI membership for those joining ahead of the conference.

Panel discussions at the event explored Guyana’s rapid economic ascent, driven by strategic policy frameworks, public-private partnerships, and an openness to innovation. Speakers noted that Guyana’s approach offers a compelling model for other emerging economies seeking resilience and sustainable growth.

As one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, Guyana’s message at OTC 2025 was clear: the nation is leveraging its oil wealth to build a diversified, future-ready economy, and the world is taking notice.
