    Published on

A 31-year-old woman from the Vergenoegen Squatting Area, East Bank Essequibo, was arrested on Saturday after police discovered over 1.3 kilograms of suspected cannabis in her possession during a routine stop at the busy Vreed-en-Hoop Junction.

The arrest occurred as part of a broader anti-narcotics operation conducted by law enforcement in Regional Division Three. Officers intercepted a motor bus at the junction and, upon searching the woman’s gift bag and haversack, found three large Ziplock bags containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis. The total weight of the seized substance was approximately 1,360 grams.

The woman was immediately cautioned and taken into custody. She remains under investigation as police continue their efforts to curb illegal drug activity in the region.

This incident was the largest cannabis seizure in the area over the weekend and forms part of a series of targeted operations by the Guyana Police Force aimed at dismantling the illegal narcotics trade. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to tackling drug-related offenses and maintaining public safety across the country.
