Police in Region Three have issued a wanted bulletin for 25-year-old Marville Barker of Tuschen North, East Bank Essequibo, in connection with the April 25, 2025, shooting of 19-year-old Garvelle Hyman at the Tuschen Housing Scheme. The incident unfolded on the Tuschen Public Road during a violent confrontation, after which Barker allegedly discharged a loaded firearm, striking Hyman in the back before fleeing the scene.
Hyman, a resident of Vergenoegen, remains in critical condition at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. He sustained two broken ribs, a collapsed lung, internal bleeding, and a bullet lodged near his spine. Due to his unstable condition, doctors have been unable to perform surgery, and he continues to require emergency interventions, including a chest tube to manage internal bleeding.
The shooting reportedly followed a physical altercation, with Hyman attempting to defend himself before he was shot. After collapsing, he was initially taken to the Leonora Hospital and later transferred for advanced care. The victim’s family has voiced frustration over what they describe as a sluggish police response, citing delays in taking statements and deploying investigative resources despite providing authorities with the suspect’s identity shortly after the incident.
The Guyana Police Force is appealing to the public for any information on Marville Barker’s whereabouts and urges anyone with knowledge of the case to contact the nearest police station.
