Over 100 Arrested in Nationwide Crackdown Following Unrest

    Published on

Law enforcement authorities have arrested more than 100 people across Guyana in the past 24 hours as part of a sweeping crackdown on criminal activity and disturbances that erupted following the recent protests. The Guyana Police Force confirmed that the arrests were made for a range of offences, including robbery under arms, arson, malicious damage, and acts of terror.

The intensified police operations also resulted in the seizure of 37 motorcycles believed to have been used in the commission of various crimes. Authorities stated that charges will be laid against those in custody, and several individuals identified in wanted bulletins have already been apprehended.

The joint services, including the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Defence Force, and Guyana Fire Service, have maintained a strong presence across all ten administrative regions to restore order and prevent further incidents. The situation has largely stabilized, with only isolated disturbances reported, and normal business operations are expected to resume countrywide.

Officials have warned that anyone found responsible for criminal acts during the unrest will be prosecuted and may be placed on a no-fly list, with their information shared with regional and international law enforcement agencies. The public is urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with ongoing security operations as the country moves towards full normalcy.
