Mahaica Man Charged with Seawall Road Murder

    Published on

A 25-year-old resident of Mahaica, Akeem Blackman, has been formally charged with the murder of Balram Persaud, following a fatal altercation earlier this month on Seawall Road, Kingston.

Blackman appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where the charge was read. According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on April 4, when a dispute between Blackman and Persaud escalated violently. Blackman allegedly struck Persaud multiple times in the head during the confrontation.

Persaud was rushed to the hospital after the attack but succumbed to his injuries, prompting a police investigation that led to Blackman’s arrest. During his court appearance, Blackman disclosed that he was previously employed with Sheriff Security Service.

The accused was not required to enter a plea, as the matter is being treated as an indictable offence. Blackman remains in police custody as the investigation continues. The case has been adjourned until June 6, when it will be brought before the court again for further proceedings.

This latest incident has added to concerns about violent crime in the area, with residents calling for increased security and conflict resolution initiatives to prevent similar tragedies. The police have assured the public that they are taking all necessary steps to ensure justice is served in this case.
