Project “Cricket Gear for Young and Promising Cricketers in Guyana” Supports Two More Rising Stars

    Published on

The Project “Cricket Gear for Young and Promising Cricketers in Guyana” has extended its support to two more talented youths, reaffirming its commitment to nurturing the next generation of Guyanese cricket talent.

The latest beneficiaries are Tamesh Deonandan and Danellie Manns. Deonandan, a promising wicketkeeper and solid batsman, has already represented his county at the Under-13 and Under-15 levels and his country at the Under-13 level. Manns, a right-arm leg spinner, has played for her county and country at the Under-19 level, and her outstanding performances have earned her selection to the West Indies Under-19 squad. Both recipients are currently attending secondary school and have shown remarkable dedication to their cricket careers.

At a recent presentation ceremony, Deonandan and Manns received cricket bats and expressed their gratitude for the support, pledging to continue working hard and striving for excellence in the sport.

The project, a joint initiative by Anil Beharry of Guyana and Kishan Das of the USA, aims to keep young people engaged in positive activities by providing them with essential cricket equipment. Since its inception, the project has directly benefited 96 young players—both male and female—from all three counties of Guyana. The distributed equipment includes bats, pads, gloves, helmets, shoes, and other cricket essentials. In addition to individual support, several cricket clubs and schools across the country have also received gear, helping to strengthen youth cricket programmes nationwide.

Organizers emphasize that the initiative is about more than just equipment—it seeks to foster discipline, education, and community spirit among young cricketers. Talent identification is ongoing, with club leaders playing a key role in nominating deserving youths. The project continues to welcome contributions of new or used cricket gear, ensuring that more aspiring cricketers have the resources they need to pursue their dreams.

With each new beneficiary, the project moves closer to its goal of making every community in Guyana a safer, more vibrant place through the power of sport.
