Guyana Showcases Green Leadership at Japan World Expo 2025

    Published on

Guyana has made a striking impression at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, unveiling its “Sustainability through Innovation: Guyana’s Low Carbon Journey†pavilion to a global audience. On opening day alone, the pavilion attracted more than 22,000 visitors, quickly becoming a highlight of the international event.

The Guyanese exhibition offers an immersive experience, spotlighting the country’s pristine rainforests, rich biodiversity, and thriving eco-tourism sector. Through interactive displays and digital storytelling, visitors are introduced to Guyana’s ambitious Low Carbon Development Strategy 2030 (LCDS 2030), which positions the nation as a global leader in sustainable development and climate action.

Launched in 2009, the LCDS 2030 is at the heart of Guyana’s vision for inclusive, sustainable growth. The strategy aims to create economic incentives for forest preservation, ensuring that the country’s vast forests are more valuable standing than cleared for agriculture, mining, or infrastructure. This approach has earned Guyana international recognition as a model for balancing economic development with environmental stewardship.

The pavilion also highlights other flagship projects, including the development of Silica City—a futuristic, climate-resilient urban center—and the Amaila Falls Hydropower Project, a cornerstone of Guyana’s transition to renewable energy. Presentations on carbon credit trading, forest conservation, and sustainable tourism further reinforce the country’s reputation for maintaining high forest cover and low deforestation rates.

Guyana’s participation at the Expo will culminate in a National Day Celebration on April 27, featuring traditional music, dance, cuisine, and art, offering visitors a taste of the nation’s vibrant culture. The Guyanese delegation, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, the Guyana Tourism Authority, and the Guyana Office for Investment, will remain active throughout the six-month event, promoting the country’s green development model and investment opportunities.

The World Expo 2025, themed “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,†runs from April 13 to October 13 and features pavilions from more than 150 countries. Guyana’s strong showing underscores its commitment to sustainable development and its growing influence on the global stage.
