A 30-year-old construction worker, Carlton Bourne, has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to armed robbery charges. The sentencing took place on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court in Guyana.

Bourne, along with two other men—Devindra Mooteram, a 27-year-old driver, and Deryck Garraway, a 20-year-old unemployed resident—was charged in connection with two robberies targeting businessman Paul Rambhajan of Good Hope and cashier Prakash Kooblall of Mon Repos, both located on the East Coast of Demerara.

The robberies occurred at Good Hope, where the victims were reportedly robbed of $150,000 in cash and two mobile phones valued at $250,000 and $60,000 respectively. The total value of the stolen items amounted to $460,000.

While Bourne admitted to his involvement and received his sentence immediately, his co-accused, Mooteram and Garraway, pleaded not guilty and have been remanded to prison pending further court proceedings scheduled for April 28.

This case underscores the ongoing challenges of armed robberies in the region and highlights the swift judicial response to such crimes. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining public safety.
