A police operation in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) has led to the arrest of Deon Roberts, a Bartica resident, following the discovery of a significant quantity of narcotics at his home. The incident unfolded on Tuesday at One Mile Potaro Road, Bartica, where Roberts resides with another individual, Blossom Holder.
According to reports, law enforcement officers arrived at the residence and informed the occupants of their intention to search the premises for illegal items, including drugs, firearms, and ammunition. Both Roberts and Holder consented to the search. However, as officers entered the house, Roberts attempted to evade capture by grabbing a white bucket and jumping through the back window of his bedroom. His escape attempt was short-lived as police pursued and apprehended him.
Upon inspecting the bucket Roberts had tried to flee with, authorities uncovered a variety of narcotics. The haul included 427 grams of cannabis, 10 grams of cannabis gummies, 3 grams of ecstasy, and 22 grams of amphetamine. The drugs were subsequently weighed at the Bartica Police Station.
Roberts remains in police custody and is expected to face charges soon. This arrest marks another step in Guyana’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and maintain law and order in remote regions. Law enforcement agencies continue to emphasize their commitment to addressing illegal activities that threaten community safety.
