Over 27kg of Ganja Seized in Major Drug Bust on Linden-Soesdyke Highway

In a significant anti-narcotics operation, police seized 27.2 kilograms of cannabis on Thursday night along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, leading to the arrest of three individuals. The bust occurred around 11:00 PM when officers from Regional Division 4B intercepted two vehicles suspected of being involved in drug trafficking.

The operation began when police stopped a white Toyota Axio (license plate PAJ 4254) traveling west along the highway. The driver, identified as 32-year-old Kerwin Dos Santos of Freeman Street, La Penitence, Georgetown, was questioned by officers. During the interaction, another vehicle—a white Toyota Allion (license plate PAH 2633)—was spotted trailing approximately 200 yards behind. This second vehicle was driven by Akeda Gordon, a 34-year-old housewife from Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, with Kareem Gordon, 27, of Middle Road, La Penitence, as a passenger.

Upon questioning Dos Santos, he admitted that both vehicles were traveling together. Police then approached the Allion and requested a search. Akeda Gordon consented to the search, which revealed three large plastic parcels in the trunk containing a suspicious substance. Subsequent testing confirmed the substance to be cannabis.

The seized drugs weighed a total of 27.2 kilograms and were immediately confiscated. All three suspects—Dos Santos, Akeda Gordon, and Kareem Gordon—were arrested on suspicion of narcotics trafficking and remain in custody as investigations continue.

Authorities have commended the swift action and vigilance of the officers involved in this operation. The bust underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking along major routes in Guyana. Investigators are now working to determine whether the suspects are part of a larger drug network operating within the region.

This latest bust highlights the persistent challenge of drug trafficking in Guyana and reinforces calls for continued vigilance and public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities.
