The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Dave West Indian Imports 1st Division 50-Overs competition has seen two commanding victories by Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Police Sports Club (PSC). These wins highlight the strength and depth of both teams in the tournament.
DCC’s Impressive Win Over Malteenoes
DCC secured a resounding victory over Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) in a rain-affected match. After winning the toss and choosing to bat, DCC amassed a formidable total of 320/6 in 41 overs. The innings was powered by a breathtaking century from young all-rounder Jonathan Van Lange, who hammered 111 runs from just 73 deliveries, including seven fours and seven sixes. He was well supported by captain Tevin Imlach, who contributed a composed 83 off 75 balls, striking seven boundaries and three sixes. Alphius Bookie played a fiery cameo, smashing 49 from just 23 balls with six fours and two sixes before being run out.
MSC struggled to respond, managing only 122 runs in 23.4 overs. DCC’s bowlers, led by Ashmead Nedd and Ezekiel Wilson, each took four wickets, ensuring a comprehensive 208-run victory.
Police’s Decisive Victory Over Georgetown Cricket Club
Police Sports Club dominated their match against Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), securing a convincing win. GCC, batting first, was bowled out for a paltry 77 runs, largely due to the exceptional bowling of Dwayne Dick, who claimed 5 wickets for just 8 runs in 5.5 overs. Quentin Sampson also made an early impact by dismissing West Indies Test player Kevin Sinclair with the first ball of the match.
Police comfortably chased down the target, reaching 81/3 in 16.3 overs, with Pernell London leading the charge with 49 runs from 59 balls. This victory underscores Police’s strong form in the tournament.
These dominant performances by DCC and Police set the stage for intense competition as the tournament progresses, with both teams positioning themselves as strong contenders for the championship title.
