Berbice Stadium on Track for Completion This Year

    Published on

In a significant update on Guyana’s sports infrastructure development, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., has announced that the National Stadium at Palmyra, East Coast Berbice, is likely to be completed and ready for use by the end of this year. This ambitious project has faced challenges, primarily due to delays in receiving materials from overseas, but progress is now accelerating.

The stadium’s design is notably modern and elaborate, featuring extensive use of steel, which distinguishes it from other sports facilities in Guyana, such as the National Stadium at Providence. Despite initial setbacks, the minister is optimistic that the project will be completed ahead of its original deadline of 2026.

Construction is advancing with the installation of the first stand underway. The stadium’s components, including pre-fabricated concrete and roofing materials, are being assembled efficiently. Additionally, the groundwork is nearing completion, with lighting installations already finished.

Minister Ramson emphasized that once all the necessary materials arrive, the assembly and installation phases will proceed swiftly. The stadium’s completion will not only enhance sports infrastructure in Berbice but also contribute to Guyana’s broader vision of becoming a sports hub in the region.

This development aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to improve sports facilities across the country. Other projects, including the construction of stadiums in Linden, Essequibo, and Leonora, are also underway, reflecting a significant investment in sports infrastructure to boost sports tourism and economic growth.

As Guyana continues to invest in its sports sector, the completion of the Berbice Stadium will provide a state-of-the-art venue for local and regional sports events, further solidifying the country’s position as a leader in sports development in the Caribbean.
