Cops Nab Two Supermarket Robbery Suspects in Separate Incidents

    Published on

In recent weeks, law enforcement agencies have made significant strides in apprehending suspects involved in supermarket robberies across different regions. These arrests highlight the ongoing efforts by police to combat retail crime, which has seen a rise in both frequency and brazenness.

    Curepe Supermarket Robbery

In a dramatic turn of events, police in Curepe successfully detained two suspects following an armed robbery at a local supermarket. The incident occurred when three armed men stormed the establishment, stealing cash and various grocery items, including alcohol and cigarettes. The suspects were intercepted by police along the Eastern Main Road, where a confrontation ensued. One suspect opened fire on officers, prompting a return of fire that resulted in the suspect being injured. Two other suspects were taken into custody, while a fourth individual, believed to be the driver, managed to escape on foot.

    Cost Pro Supermarket Robbery

In a separate incident, an armed robbery took place at the Cost Pro Supermarket in Madame Estate. Two men, armed with firearms, threatened cashiers and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects fled the scene on a scooter, heading towards Dutch Quarter. Despite their swift escape, police are actively reviewing security footage and gathering witness statements to identify and track the perpetrators.

    Success Supermarket Robbery

In another notable case, three individuals, including a couple, were arrested for their involvement in an armed robbery at a Success supermarket in East Coast Demerara. The suspects, identified as Cleveland Cross, Orwin Smith, and his girlfriend Showana Sobers, were apprehended after a thorough investigation. Cross was found with items linked to the crime, including cellular phones and a ski mask, while Smith was discovered with a handgun and part of the stolen cash.

These arrests underscore the commitment of law enforcement to tackle retail crime, which is increasingly linked to organized groups and individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol. As retail security trends for 2025 indicate, there is a growing need for enhanced security measures not only to protect stores and stock but also to ensure the safety of staff members who are often at risk during these incidents.
