Police probing break-in at Housing Ministry’s Annex

    Published on

The Guyana Police Force is actively investigating a break-in at the Ministry of Housing’s Annex in Georgetown that occurred in the early hours of Monday, March 3, 2025. The incident has raised concerns about security at government facilities and prompted a thorough review of the events.

    Details of the Incident

The break-in is believed to have taken place between 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 2, and 7:00 AM on Monday, March 3. A cleaner discovered the ransacked office on the middle floor of the three-story building upon arriving for work on Monday morning. The Annex, located at 42 Croal and United Nations Place, houses the Community Development Department.

    Suspect Captured on CCTV

Police have obtained CCTV footage showing a male suspect entering the premises at approximately 12:22 AM on Monday. The individual, described as being of African descent, was seen wearing a black jersey and green three-quarter pants. He arrived on a blue BMX bicycle and was later observed leaving the building at 12:45 AM carrying a black haversack and a white box.

    Investigation Findings

Despite the apparent intrusion, authorities have reported that nothing has been confirmed missing or stolen. The Ministry of Housing and Water has assured the public that all records and files remain intact and accounted for. A casement window in the IT room on the middle floor was found open, though no signs of forced entry were apparent.

    Security Measures and Response

The building is reportedly secured with safety latches on its glass doors and is under 24-hour surveillance by Elite Security Service. However, the suspect managed to gain entry through a window in a secluded area, evading detection by the on-duty security guard.

    Ongoing Investigation

The Guyana Police Force has interviewed several persons in connection with the incident and is actively pursuing leads. They urge anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues. The Ministry of Housing and Water has cooperated fully with law enforcement, providing CCTV footage and facilitating the processing of the scene.

As the probe continues, this incident has highlighted the need for enhanced security measures at government facilities to prevent future breaches.
