New Zealand edge West Indies by 9 runs in third T20I to take 2-1 series lead

(OTTplay)-New Zealand delivered a complete team performance to edge past West Indies by nine runs in the third T20I at Nelson, taking a crucial 2–1 lead in the five-match series. Devon Conway’s composed fifty and Ish Sodhi’s timely strikes guided the hosts to victory in what proved to be a gripping contest between two evenly matched sides. The win also helped New Zealand bounce back from the previous game’s setback and regain confidence heading into the next fixture.

Conway anchors, Sodhi strikes as New Zealand seal deal

Batting first after winning the toss, New Zealand posted a competitive 177 for 9 on a pitch that offered both pace and grip. Devon Conway led the charge with a fluent 56 off 38 balls, while Daryl Mitchell chipped in with a quick 41. Despite late wickets from the Caribbean pacers, the hosts managed to put up enough runs to challenge their opponents.

In response, the West Indies chase began aggressively, with Brandon King and Johnson Charles finding early boundaries. However, New Zealand’s bowlers struck back through disciplined spells, particularly from Ish Sodhi, who picked up three wickets to break the visitors’ momentum. His crucial breakthroughs in the middle overs turned the tide, as West Indies stumbled from a strong start to 168 all out.

Captain Kane Williamson’s tactical bowling changes and New Zealand’s sharp fielding added to the pressure, sealing a hard-fought victory. For West Indies, the inability to convert starts into big scores proved costly, with their middle order once again failing to finish the job.

The result gives New Zealand a 2–1 advantage heading into the fourth T20I, and they’ll look to maintain their momentum. West Indies, on the other hand, face a must-win scenario if they are to keep the series alive, setting up another high-intensity clash between two dynamic sides.
