With only one day to go, the excitement is palpable as the Ministry of Education prepares for the highly anticipated Children’s Mashramani road parade and costume competition. This vibrant event is a highlight of the Mashramani calendar, showcasing the rich culture and heritage of Guyana through a variety of dances, songs, and festivities.
The Children’s Mashramani competitions kicked off in January, culminating in a spectacular finale today. Tomorrow, the streets will come alive with young revellers displaying their creative costumes and ‘mash floats’ as they parade through the city. It is expected that a large crowd of students, teachers, and parents will gather to witness this year’s festivities, beginning at Parade Ground, Middle Street Georgetown, and concluding at the National Park.
Throughout the competitions, the Ministry has emphasized the courage, dedication, and hard work of the students, who have taken to the stage in various Regions to showcase their talents through captivating and powerful performances. Each participant’s passion has set the stage for the next, resulting in a series of remarkable presentations.
Today’s competition features the Dance, Hip Hop, and Masquerade categories, taking place at the National Cultural Centre in Georgetown. The Primary School segment will run from 09:30 to 12:30 hrs, followed by the Secondary School segment from 13:30 to 17:00 hrs. This year’s theme for Mashramani 2025 is “Expressing our culture and creativity as one Guyana,” coinciding with the celebration of Guyana’s 55th Republic Anniversary, which will include lively performances by local artists during the annual Flag Raising Ceremony at the Public Buildings on February 22, 2025.
