David Hinds, co-leader of the WPA, has once again unveiled the underlying issues plaguing opposition politics—an approach that thrives on division, hatred, and desperation. His disparaging remarks toward Afro-Guyanese who support the PPP/C are utterly disgraceful. To label his own community as “lick bottoms†and “house slaves†for their political choices is not only insulting but a direct affront to the principles of democracy.
Hinds positions himself as a leader, yet what type of leader degrades his own people for exercising their right to make independent choices? What kind of leader resorts to racist rhetoric while masquerading as a proponent of Black empowerment? The reality is that David Hinds is not advocating for the advancement of Afro-Guyanese; rather, he seeks to keep them bound in political servitude to the PNC, a party that has historically failed to deliver on its promises.
For decades, the PNC has capitalized on the votes of Afro-Guyanese while offering little in return. The very party that claims to be their “protector†presided over a period marked by economic decline, job losses, and a dearth of opportunities. Under their governance, many in the Afro-Guyanese community faced significant hardships. Now, as Black Guyanese begin to experience progress under the PPP/C and embrace the notion of One Guyana, Hinds chooses to derogate them.
This is not leadership; this is a manifestation of desperation. President Irfaan Ali has articulated that One Guyana is more than just a slogan; it represents a commitment to unity, development, and equality for all. No citizen should feel ashamed of their political affiliations. The era of racially charged political discourse must come to an end, and Hinds’ rhetoric should be condemned by all who value progress.
David, your words will not stand the test of time. You are on the wrong side of history. Guyana is advancing, and no amount of vitriolic speech can hinder this progress.
You claim to advocate against injustice, yet it is you who seeks to silence and shame Afro-Guyanese who dare to think independently. Where was your outrage when the PNC left Black communities in a state of disarray, underdeveloped and neglected? Where was your voice when corruption and mismanagement under the PNC led Guyana into economic turmoil? The fact is, your concern is not about Black empowerment; it is about exerting control over the community.
Your attacks reflect nothing but political desperation. The PPP/C’s policies have fostered opportunities for all Guyanese, including those of African descent. Under this government, jobs are being generated, infrastructure is developing, businesses are flourishing, and young people—irrespective of race—are being granted avenues for success. That is genuine leadership. That is authentic progress.
However, Hinds does not seek progress; he craves control. When he witnesses Afro-Guyanese stepping beyond his ideological constraints, he panics. This is why he resorts to insults, belittling his own people with racist and derogatory language.
David, your time has come to an end. Your style of politics—anchored in division, fear, and manipulation—has no future in Guyana. The populace is rejecting outdated racial politics, and you are enraged because your grip is slipping.
You do not possess the thoughts of Afro-Guyanese. You do not determine their trajectory. They are free to choose, free to think, and free to support any political party that aligns with their interests. That is democracy. That is progress.
So continue speaking, David. Keep showcasing your true colors, for each time you voice your thoughts, you remind the people of Guyana why they are progressing—without you and the PNC.
