With a number of new faces anticipated to take the stage in a competitive environment this Sunday at the Saint Stanislaus College Auditorium, Fitness Express, a long-time partner of powerlifting, has once again stepped up to support the event. Owner/Manager Jamie McDonald presented a contribution to Kiana Benjamin, an Executive Member of the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation, in preparation for the event scheduled to kick off at 09:00 hours.
Fitness Express, which has been serving the needs of athletes across various disciplines for over 15 years, has consistently backed the sport of powerlifting. McDonald expressed his satisfaction with the partnership, stating, “We at Fitness Express have witnessed the growth of this sport, and we feel vindicated that our collaboration over the years has positively impacted the athletes. Our athletes have excelled regionally and internationally, making our nation proud, and we are committed to continuing our support as a responsible business.â€
In response, Kiana Benjamin expressed gratitude for McDonald’s unwavering support, highlighting Fitness Express’s significant role in the success of powerlifting in Guyana. “You have grown alongside this sport, and you deserve every accolade for your steadfast commitment to its advancement. We are truly thankful to you, Mr. McDonald, and Fitness Express for your confidence in us, and we wish you ongoing success.â€
Benjamin also noted that McDonald’s investment has played a role in the recognition of France-based powerlifter Dominic Tyrrell, who recently received the National Sports Commission 2023 runner-up Sportsman of the Year award. This reflects the sport’s continued growth. She reminded McDonald that Guyana has secured medals at every World Championship it has attended over the past two years, totaling five medals across sub-junior, junior, senior, and masters levels, as well as two South American Championships.
This year promises to be another busy one for the athletes, who will strive to uphold Guyana’s impressive track record at both regional and international competitions.
