McCoy Criticizes Hinds for Offensive Remarks

Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy, publicly denounced the recent inflammatory comments made by David Hinds, co-leader of the Working People’s Alliance (WPA). McCoy emphasized that every Guyanese citizen has the fundamental right to support any political party they wish.

Earlier this week, Hinds sparked controversy during his program, ‘Politics 101,’ by making derogatory remarks about Afro-Guyanese, calling them “lick bottoms†and “house slaves.†In a video addressing these comments, McCoy labeled Hinds’ attacks as not only offensive but also as a troubling reflection of the APNU-AFC’s long history of exploiting the Afro-Guyanese community in Guyana.

“His words are laced with disdain and arrogance, embodying the very mentality that characterizes the opposition’s stance on race and politics in our nation,†McCoy remarked. He further stated that Hinds’ comments reveal the entrenched attitudes of the opposition, which mask their divisive ideology under a guise of inclusivity.

McCoy underscored that Hinds’ remarks were not an isolated incident but a clear representation of the opposition’s true beliefs about the communities they claim to represent. He asserted, “Afro-Guyanese, like all Guyanese, are entitled to advocate for the political party of their choice, as enshrined in our Constitution.â€

He continued, “As Afro-Guyanese and other citizens exercise their democratic rights to pursue policies and leadership that enhance their lives, they face insults from those who once sought their votes.†McCoy highlighted that these individuals often behave as if they have a claim over the Afro-Guyanese community, demanding unwavering loyalty to their failed leadership while promoting a legacy of corruption and electoral manipulation.

He pointed out that Afro-Guyanese, like all other citizens, have suffered from systematic neglect while those in power enriched themselves, leading to increased hardships for working-class individuals due to harsh tax policies. “All Guyanese must unite to denounce David Hinds and the APNU-AFC,†he urged.

In closing, McCoy expressed optimism, noting that Guyanese are increasingly motivated to reject the hateful and regressive rhetoric of the past, instead embracing a more unifying, inclusive, and transformative vision encapsulated in the “One Guyana†framework.
